About MSOL

BMG's online credit card licensing allows you to obtain a mechanical license and pay using a credit card.

The license fee is based on the total number of units that you manufacture (excluding permanent audio digital downloads which require a minimum payment of 250 downloads per song, per license). Should you wish to sell additional units thereafter, you must obtain a new license from BMG to cover those units.

The statutory mechanical royalty rate for physical recordings (such as CDs) and permanent digital downloads currently is:

9.10 Cents per copy for songs 5 minutes or less or 1.75 Cents per minute or fraction thereof, per copy for songs over 5 minutes.

For example:

5:01 to 6:00 = $.105 (6 x $.0175 = $.105)
6:01 to 7:00 = $.1225 (7 x $.0175 = $.1225)
7:01 to 8:00 = $.14 (8 x $.0175 = $.14)

You many only license BMG’s share of a composition from this site.

For example, if BMG controls 50% of a composition that is under 5 minutes, and you are licensing 1,000 copies of a CD, you will pay BMG a mechanical royalty of $45.50
$.091 x .5 x 1,000 = $45.50
You are responsible for licensing any outside shares from the respective publishers.

Please note that in addition to the amount listed below, your credit card will be billed an additional one-time $15.00 processing fee. The total fee charged to your credit card is the Royalty Amount + $15.00.
